University Fees
Exchange students are required to pay approximately 250 € to the University of Oldenburg.  These fees are used to pay for a public transportation ticket, to support the student parliament, and some campus facilities.

German Health Insurance
In order to receive a residence permit, you must purchase insurance through one of the public health insurance companies in Germany (e.g. AOK, DAK, TK). The fee for students is usually the same at all public insurance companies (about 80 €/month).
To be sure that your insurance coverage is sufficient and your insurance will be validated, you should make sure of two things:
  • the insurance period should comprise a whole semester from the day of arrival until the end of final exams
  • the insured amount for medical treatment after injury or illness should cover at least EUR 100,000
Cost of Living:
Students must be able to show support in the amount of 659 € per month (approx. $850).  You can expect living expenses to be between 600 € and 700 €.

The University of Oldenburg has several off-campus dormitories. The rooms assigned to exchange students are single rooms and are fully furnished; the kitchen and bathroom(s) are shared with other students, and there are in-house laundry facilities. Please note that the rental agreements last for a period of six months and that, for some dormitories, students are asked to pay upfront for the entire period of their stay. The rent is around 160 € to 210 € per month.
Alternately, exchange students can apply for a room in a shared apartment that is rented privately (this is a common arrangement in Germany). This may be a bit more expensive (around 180 € to 300 € per month), but the rental agreements are more flexible. The application form is the same for all types of accommodation.
