Program Description:
This project is an exciting, inaugural collaboration with the Institute of the Arts Barcelona (IAB), located in Sitges, Spain. Students will join faculty and students from institutions from all over world for 3 weeks of creation, exploration, partnership, and celebration. The festival will facilitate workshops and a collaborative creation process, culminating in an interdisciplinary theatrical event at the conclusion of the festival.
This course will begin on campus with an overview of current European theatre, dance and culture.  Through supplemental readings, projects and discussions, students will be challenged to expand their perspectives on theatrical production and cultural norms.  Once abroad students will participate in daily workshops in a variety of genres, given by other faculty members, and will work to create a final performance. Visits to Madrid and Barcelona will also be scheduled, allowing the students to explore visual arts through museum visits and architectural tours.

Cost: $3062 (Includes accommodations, training, in-country travel, and airfare.  Does not include UW tuition/fees, $140 study abroad fee, $25 for international insurance).

Please contact Prof. Jennifer Deckert ( for more information and permission to enroll.
